What annoys me is that an os like puppy linux can use it but windows cannot. It is my girlfriends pc. MSI may apply some modifications ie branding, extra features but the core system driver is built by, in this case, VIA. It certainly is NOT a bios issue as I tried puppy linux 3. A cheap AGP card it is then. Linux does the same in lot of cases. Thanks for all your help much appreciated!

Sorry that should be K8M! Can you give some more info on it, please.
Home Help Search Login Register. I had already read that forum link. Might this driver work, but you use it on your risk: I am on xp sp2.
What annoys me is that an os like puppy linux can use it but windows cannot. That driver IS the one I have installed so I will just have to get an agp card as unless she wants to use linux she jsi not likely tothen I will go down that route.

The frame buffer is set to 64MB km8800 cannot be altered only the aperture size. So job done – again thanks for your help but the inherent limitations of these old onboard VIA chipsets lacking support forced me down this route and at that price I am not complaining!
Does Linux drivers come with a tray application?? It certainly is NOT a bios issue as I tried puppy linux 3.
I could modify the registry but I am not going to risk that! If I could get her to use puppy linux I would but she is a woman who thinks windows is a pc I am afraid that for windows it is going to have to be an agp card. I have the very latest bios installed 3.
It’s not uncommon for good operating-systems to bypass the BIOS and drive the chip your own way. K9M will NOT cope with x resolution as it is not listed!
Bas, you posted before I replied, and pretty much covered it. Ah well, it is the luck of the draw I am afraid. Glad to hear you got it sorted!
Has anybody got past this issue? OK, lets clear a few things up. I just cannot get it to see wuxga reolutions specifically X on this 22″ widescreen monitor. It is my girlfriends pc. It amazes me that support is just negligent.

It suggests MSI do not care about this mobo anymore and will never release an updated bios or device driver. MSI may apply some modifications ie branding, extra features but the core system driver is built by, in this case, VIA. I am ok with linux I cannot ecpect my girlfriend to be so it is windows xp or nothing.
I will have a look if that is the driver that risky link but i am pretty ceratin I did use the latest but if it is not i will try thanks. It is simply a driver issue and I cannot believe MSI will not update it to accommodate these resolutions!
Thanks for all your help much appreciated! I’ve assumed SIS is some kind of Linux driver. BIOS lists all the possible resolutions standards normally: A cheap AGP card it is then. It is just the standard resolutions of CRTs.
