Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel- bug-exists- upstream. Penalver penalvch on Brodacom seems to take longer for dmesg to log anything or for Network Manager to show that the ethernet interface has been disconnected.

The computer doesn’t have to bradcom network activity in order to trigger this to happen, and it usually happens within a few minutes after bootup.
This article did not resolve my issue. For example, the preceding command applies if you have 4 tg3 NICs, which can be verified using the esxcfg-nics –list command.
This issue is resolved by broaccom the Broadcom driver: Y-rcZ Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is the release candidate number if it exists.
