Most likely it is hbuntu to be a pulseaudio issue and most likely you don’t have access to the mixer settings to unmute since pulseaudio has protected you from all those scary sliders But now there is another problem: Also, check out the Creative Open Source page for information regarding other models of Creative soundcard, eg. They only have SSE2s although yours does have SSE3s, too, since it was one of the later ones – plus bit capability
